The ICC revealed the LOGO of the upcoming 2023 Men’s World Cup on April 2, coinciding with India’s triumphant moment in 2011 when they clinched the ICC trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. With only six months remaining until the flagship men’s ODI event, the Cricket World Cup embraces the concept of ‘Navarasa,’ representing the nine emotions that fans experience during the high-stakes action.
Derived from Indian theatre, the ‘Navarasa’ has been ingeniously reimagined to capture the emotions fans go through while witnessing the drama and excitement of a World Cup match. Joy, power, anguish, respect, pride, bravery, glory, wonder, and passion personify the myriad reactions that the Cricket World Cup evokes, as stated in an official release.
Looking forward to the tournament, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, exclaims that his team will embrace the excitement and expectations as they prepare for the event on their home soil. “With only six months remaining until the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the anticipation is building rapidly. Playing a World Cup in front of our home crowd is a dream come true for every player, especially as the captain. I can hardly wait for it to begin. The Men’s Cricket World Cup is a momentous occasion for everyone involved in cricket, and in the next few months, we will leave no stone unturned to prepare ourselves and increase our chances of lifting the coveted trophy,” Sharma affirms.
For BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, commemorating the 2011 victory holds significance in acknowledging its “enduring impact” on the nation, while also hoping to create new memories in this year’s edition. “The BCCI eagerly awaits the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and is committed to delivering a memorable event for fans, both in India and around the world. The wait until October seems long, but witnessing world-class cricket in the pinnacle event of the one-day game, hosted by India, promises to be a spectacular affair,” Shah is quoted as saying by ICC.
In celebration of the 12-year milestone, ICC’s digital collectible partner, FanCraze, plans to gift MS Dhoni a special ‘glory’ Digital Collectible themed around ‘Navarasa.’
Seven out of the ten teams have already confirmed their qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The eighth spot will be secured by the eighth-placed finisher of the Cricket World Cup Super League, with the remaining two determined through the Cricket World Cup Qualifier in June and July. As the teams vie for the final three spots, ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice notes that excitement is reaching new heights. “We are thrilled to unveil the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 brand, capturing the raw emotions and joy that cricket brings to fans all over the world through the concept of Navarasa.”
