- India and Australia are competing in the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship final, which is being played in England’s Oval.
- Chasing a target of 444 runs, India ended Day 4 at 164/3.
- Virat Kohli is unbeaten on 44, whilst Ajinkya Rahane is batting on 20.
- Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon have picked up one wicket apiece for Australia in this innings.
What a fantastic, if rather controversial, day of Test cricket this has been. Day 4 began with a superb half-century from Alex Carey, who was supported by Mitchell Starc. Australia declared their second innings at 280 for 8.
The Aussies then sent out ‘baby GOAT’ Shubman Gill early again, but skipper Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion with a 43-run innings. India lost two wickets in quick succession for the umpteenth time, with Cheteshwar Pujara accompanying his skipper back to the dressing room, but since then, it’s been all about a vintage Virat Kohli and a classic Ajinkya Rahane. The former finished Day 4 with a score of 44 not out, while the latter is batting on 20.
India’s current score is 164/3. They require 280 runs, while Australia requires 7 wickets. Given the manner India has batted today, scoring at more than four runs per over, the chances of a draw seem slim. It’s their way or the highway. 90 overs remain till the ‘Ultimate Test’ concludes.
