IRE vs IND, 3rd T20I: India wins series against Ireland 2-0 after 3rd T20I called off due to rain

The rain started even before the toss and continued for more than three hours before the umpires decided to abandon the game.

The third and final T20 International between India and Ireland scheduled for Wednesday was abandoned due to rain, with no play possible. India had already clinched the series 2-0 with a win in the second T20I on Sunday, and winning the series opener on DLS which was also affected by rain.

The toss for the final match was delayed because of the rain, and despite multiple inspections, the umpires had to call off the game three hours after the originally scheduled start time.

This series marked the impressive comebacks of pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, both returning from back surgeries. They now face a tougher challenge in the ODI Asia Cup, which starts on August 31.

Bumrah led a team filled with young talent as senior players were rested, with a focus on the ODI format in preparation for the World Cup scheduled for October-November.

For the younger players, this series served as a warm-up for next month’s Asian Games in China, where a second-string Indian team will participate as the senior squad is occupied with World Cup preparations.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will captain the team in China, had the opportunity to bat in consecutive matches after being sidelined for most of the West Indies tour. He played a crucial role with a fine half-century in the 33-run victory on Sunday.

The series also saw the much-awaited debut of IPL sensation Rinku Singh, who made a significant impact in the limited opportunities he had during this short tour.

Sanju Samson, considered a backup for K L Rahul in the ODI format, showcased his skills with a brisk 40, even though his chances of securing a World Cup spot remain slim.

Shivam Dube, who returned to the squad after a successful IPL campaign, contributed both with the bat and the ball during the series.
