India achieved a convincing seven-wicket victory over West Indies in the third T20I at the Providence Stadium, Guyana on Tuesday. This win marks India’s first in the series, keeping it alive at 2-1.
Suryakumar Yadav led the charge with 83 runs, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 49, successfully chasing down the 160-run target within 18 overs. Kuldeep Yadav’s three wickets earlier restricted West Indies to 159/5 in the first innings.
Despite losing debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over, India managed to secure 16 runs as Suryakumar hit a four and a six to kickstart his innings. Shubman Gill, however, fell early after scoring six off 11 balls.
Tilak Varma joined Suryakumar and together they added 87 runs off 51 balls for the third wicket, seizing control of the game. Suryakumar reached his fifty in just 23 balls, smashing 10 fours and four sixes during his 83-run innings off 44 balls before getting caught at the fine leg boundary.
Tilak played a supporting role, and with Hardik Pandya at the crease, they completed the run chase in 17.5 overs. Pandya finished the match with a six, while Tilak remained unbeaten on 49 at the non-striker’s end.
Opting to bat first, West Indies made a steady start with Brandon King and Kyle Mayers putting up 55 runs for the opening wicket in the first eight overs. Pandya concluded Axar Patel’s spell in the first ten overs, and Kuldeep Yadav, after an initially tough over, came back strongly to take three wickets, including those of Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran, and King. Captain Rovman Powell contributed a solid 40 off 19 balls, boosting West Indies to a competitive total.
India and West Indies will now head to Florida for the final two matches of the series on Saturday and Sunday.
