Prajapati leads Oman’s batting charge to stun Ireland Dockrell’s unbeaten and career-best 91 goes in vain for Ireland.
Ireland faced a shocking five-wicket defeat by Oman during the ICC ODI World Cup qualifiers held at the Bulawayo Athletic Club sports ground in Zimbabwe on Monday.
Oman’s strong performance, fueled by half-centuries from Kashyap Harishbhai Prajapati, Zeeshan Maqsood, and Aquib Ilyas, led them to a total of 285/5, surpassing their target by three runs with 11 balls to spare.
Zeeshan Maqsood was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring 59 runs off 67 balls and taking the crucial wicket of Andrew Balbernie.
In the first innings, Ireland had reason to be optimistic as a late surge from their lower-order batsmen propelled them to a total of 281/7. Harry Tector (52 off 82 balls) and George Dockrell (91* off 89 balls) were the standout performers with the bat. This came after Oman had won the toss and chosen to bowl.
However, Oman’s chase was marked by a remarkable partnership of 94 runs between Ilyas and Prajapati, with valuable contributions from Mohammad Nadeem (46*), Ayaan Khan (21), and Shoaib Khan (19*), enabling them to secure victory in style.
Brief Score: Oman 285 for 5 (Prajapati 72, Maqsood 59, Ilyas 52, Adair 2-47, Little 2-47) beat Ireland 281 for 7 (Dockrell 91*, Tector 52, Bilal 2-64, Butt 2-65) by five wickets.
